Shell showcases advanced aviation technology solutions at WTTC

Shell, one of the world's leading aviation fuel suppliers, showcased its advanced aviation solutions at the 13th annual World Travel & Tourism Council Global Summit, which took place in Abu Dhabi at the Jumeirah Etihad Towers from April 8-10.

Co-hosted by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) and Etihad Airways, the summit promoted sustainable growth for the aviation industry, working with governments and international institutions to create jobs, drive exports and contribute to economic growth.

The summit’s keynote address was delivered by Bill Clinton, 42nd president of the United States and founder of the William J Clinton Foundation.

According to research released by the WTTC, in the UAE the growing tourism industry accounts for approximately 14% of the economy, with growth forecast to be well above the global average of 9% per annum.

This is enabled, in great part, by the country’s leading airlines, including Etihad Airways, one of the world’s fastest growing companies.

“By supporting our partners in the aviation industry, such as Etihad Airways, with innovative and efficient fuel solutions, as well as logistical expertise and technical know-how, Shell is demonstrating its continued commitment to support the phenomenal growth of the airline industry, vital to Abu Dhabi and UAE’s economic growth,” said Xavier Hery, general manager, Shell Aviation, Middle East, South and Central Asia, and Africa (pictured).

As one of key sponsors of WTTC, Shell showcased its advanced portfolio of aviation solutions that enable the company to fuel an average of one aircraft every 12 seconds in supplying more than 800 airports in 40 countries.

“Shell lives up to its mission towards on-going innovation in fuel technology with continued advancement in industry standards in operational excellence and safety standards, which provides the aviation industry with a comprehensive and reliable supply network, essential for development and sustainability,” added Hery.

Shell has extensive experience in working with airport authorities and stakeholders to improve overall airport safety and operating standards, including into-plane fuelling, fuel hydrants design, airport network planning and fuel farm systems.

With more than a century of innovation experience in aviation, Shell Aviation remains active in the region and continues to supply specialty aviation lubricants and greases across the Middle East. It has branded operations at airports in the UAE and serves customers through third-party distributors across the Middle East region.
