The roads and urban development minister, Abbas Akhoundi, has disclosed the plan as part of the country’s post-sanction air transport strategy and said the airport is to be expanded to accommodate 45 million passengers annually, and that free zones will be created in the vicinity of the airport.

Akhoundi said: “These developments in Iran’s aviation industry will benefit the Iranian people, as well as all people in the region.”
