Through to June 2017, the airline with the green and white livery will fly non-stop with one service on Mondays, from each of Munich and Dusseldorf in Germany to the beach and diving paradise. With this decision, Germania joins a number of other European airlines, becoming the first German airline to fly to Sharm El Sheikh since the end of the temporary flight ban imposed by the German Department of Tourism.

“After careful analysis and evaluation of the situation in Sharm El Sheikh, Germania is responding to requests received from tour operators and is reintroducing regular flights,” said Sieghard Jähn, Germania Fluggesellschaft’s accountable manager.  Security lapses at the airport had become evident in connection with the crash of a Russian passenger jet above the Sinai Peninsula last year. “Together with several international experts, our Security Manager personally took part in several evaluations.  The airport’s safety procedures have been considerably improved over recent months and are now in line with international requirements.”

Over the last few years, Egypt has become a popular destination for holiday makers who enjoy diving and snorkelling. Sharm El Sheikh, in particular, offers a spectacular underwater world and complements holiday offers available in Hurghada. “In the coming winter season, we are delighted to offer holiday-makers seeking rest and relaxation, as well as water-sports enthusiasts, another opportunity to spend their holiday by the Red Sea”, Jähn added.
