Althuis joined Etihad Airways in 2012 as its general manager in China. He oversaw the airline’s expansion in China and most recently Hong Kong.

In his new role as Vice President - Europe, Althuis will assume commercial responsibility for the entire European region, which includes Etihad’s 14 European markets such as the UK, Ireland, France and Germany, and will be expanded to include Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

Daniel Barranger, Etihad Airways’ senior vice president global sales, said: “Remco has played a key role in the expansion of Etihad Airways in Greater China during the last three years and has a wealth of experience and expertise overseeing regional sales activities both in Asia and Europe. Etihad’s European flight network and operations have grown considerably in recent years and Remco’s experience and expertise will support this growth further.”

“We are delighted that Remco will take up his new role, based in Berlin, to lead Etihad Airways’ commercial activities across the region as we look to expand our sales operations, and working with our Etihad Airline Partners, airberlin, Alitalia, Air Serbia and Etihad Regional,” Barranger added.
