An Unbelievable Lasting Legacy

Posted 11 June 2013 · Add Comment

As the Legacy 500 soared past 300 flight test hours, Embraer Executive Jets released a cinematic-style film starring the Legacy 500 alongside legendary film star Jackie Chan.

The movie The Unbelievable was commissioned to cinematically present the essence of the Legacy 500 and provide a lasting testament to the aircrafts attributes.

The Making of The Unbelievable:
With the Legacy 500 latest advancements, including the first flights of s/n 001, 002,003 placing the aircraft closer to entering market, we wanted to put into cinematic art the essence of the advanced technology and game changing nature of this truly unbelievable aircraft. Our objective was to produce a piece unlike anything our industry has seen before, just as our engineers created an aircraft like nothing the market has seen before.

The inspiration to create this movie came from the aircraft itself, with its unbelievable advanced technology. As the concept was matured we foreshadowed what was coming first with dramatic paint scheme of the Legacy 500 s/n 001.  The paint scheme is the creation of Embraer Executive Jet's design team in Sao Jose dos Campos.  They brilliantly captured the essence of Fly-By-Wire that gave the aircraft dramatic, innovative lines that were all part of the vision of high technology that then allowed the movie to follow suit.

The scenes of Embraer Executive Jets brand ambassador - and Legacy 650 owner - Jackie Chan, were shot on location and only took an afternoon as he quickly adapted into character. The production team had admiration of how gracious he was making himself available in the desired location during the time period that ensured we had the film ready for its debut at EBACE in Geneva on 21 May 2013. We were able to capture on film some of his well-known coin tricks that show his agility. Following the shoot, he spent some time with the production crew relaxing and sharing stories of his career.

The movie is a Hollywood-style cinematic production that required experts in the field. The project was the brainchild of Graham Kerr, chairman and executive creative director of MBA, our creative agency based in London. Graham interviewed numerous directors and producers before finalising his decision with Asa Bailey of Mom & Dad Productions out of the United Kingdom and Deane Thrussell who was one of the second directors of the movie Prometheus, and has done creative promotional work for numerous other global brands.  We were involved every step of the way, though knew we were in great hands with such a high caliber team of creative and production experts.

The movie was shot in two physical locations and in studios in Miami and London.  The majority of the scenes were in and around Hollywood / Malibu, California. The scenes with Jackie Chan were filmed on location in Hong Kong.  The production team utilised an anamorphic lens that gave many of the scenes the dramatic visual effects viewers have come to expect in motion pictures.

The scenes with the aircraft flying and the interior were done using Computer Generated Images (CGI). The CGI studios were located in Miami, Florida and London, England.

An original, very suspenseful soundtrack was created specifically for the film and mixed in a studio in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
