Al Yah 3 satellite on course to deliver broadband across Brazil and Africa

Posted 11 August 2015 · Add Comment

UAE-based satellite operator Yahsat, has announced a major milestone in the construction of its third satellite; Al Yah 3, due to be delivered by the end of 2016.

In partnership with Orbital ATK, Yahsat has now completed the Critical Design Review (CDR) on the Al Yah 3 satellite.

David Murphy, Chief Commercial Officer at Yahsat said: “This is an important moment for us. Today’s achievement demonstrates that we are on track for our scheduled launch. Our customers have told us they need more services, greater speeds and a wider coverage area and we’ve listened; Al Yah 3 will provide all three of these things.”

The Critical Design Review was the last chance to make any changes to the satellite design. Al Yah 3 now moves into the spacecraft integration phase of construction.

Mr Murphy went on to say, “Al Yah 3 will be all Ka-band, which we’ve found works extremely well in the African markets we already serve. With this new investment in infrastructure, we are looking to enhancing our services and providing more reliable connectivity even in the most remote areas.

“With this new satellite, Yahsat’s Ka-band coverage footprint will be significantly expanded, bringing high-speed, affordable satellite broadband services to the African and Brazilian consumer and enterprise markets, as well as economic, high data-rate backhaul links for ISPs and telecommunications operators.

"The opportunity to deliver these services reinforces our commitment to developing the best possible infrastructure and operating models for all of our markets.”
