Airbus C295 completes Antartica flight

An Airbus C295W aircraft owned by the Mexican Navy has made the first ever flight to the Antarctica.

The aircraft, manned by a mixed crew from Airbus Defence and Space and SEMAR, flew from Río Gallegos Airport, Argentina, to the Marambio Base in Antartica.
 
The C295W landed at the base at 11:45 on 27 November, and returned to Río Gallegos eight hours later.
 
The flight proves the versatility of the C295W, after completing flights from El Alto Airport in La Paz, Bolivia, at an altitude of over 4,000 metres.
 
The C295Wis equipped with winglets, which allow for transport of more payload over larger distances in diverse conditions.
 
During its tour, the C295W has visited Bolivia and Chile and will continue to Paraguay and Panama after its stop in Argentina before completing the tour in Mexico next month.
